The Complex of Synagogues in Kalvarija
the only complex of three synagogues in Lithuania that has survived to the present day. It has a formation history of more than 200 years. The complex is composed of the Baroque summer and the Eclectic winter synagogues and a small, playful “brick-style” architecture Talmud school, known as the Rabbi’s House. The Baroque synagogue built at the end of the eighteenth century is one of the most valuable brick synagogues in Lithuania. The initial structure and forms are authentic, the walls are up to 1.5 m thick. It is one of the three places in Lithuania where the original storage of Torah scrolls, aron kodesh, has been preserved.
