A kayaking trail on the Sidra river

The trail can be started from Water Sports Centre over the water reservoir, a place with a campsite, or in Siderka village, below the place where kayaks have to be carried, on 15,3 kilometre of the trail. The Sidra river can provide wonderful adventures before kayaking on the calm Biebrza river, as a tourist has to be exceptionally careful here – he or she will meet a lot of rapids. Other difficulties are low footbridges and tree boughs blocking the river or growing on its bed. Depending on the water level, it may be necessary to carry the kayaks in a number of places. If the water level is low, the 2-metre tall concrete blocks damming the river become an obstacle, while when the level is high they go unnoticed. There are also concrete valves (usually opened) with wooden pegs on the bottom, hiding behind them.

1. Sidra – Ostrowie Kolonia 17 km

0,0 - Sidra  - beginning of the trail on a meadow next to a footbridge linking the village and the train station;

0,9 – a bridge on Sidra – Słomianka road;

2,5 – mouth of left tributary river of Bierwich (Bierwiek);

3,3 - mouth of left tributary river of Mościszanka;

4,8 - Siderka, a railroad bridge leading to Szostaki village, a weir of inoperational mill. The kayaks need to be carried over on the right bank, for about 80 meters – it is also a good place to start kayaking;

8,5 – on the left bank – Butrymowce village and a bridge on the local road leading to the village of Grzebienie;

11,7 –  a bridge on the 670 Dąbrowa Białostocka – Grodno regional road

13,8 - a bridge on the Harasimowicze (Wielki Staw) – Dubaśno local road;

14,0 – inoperational gate, below there are remains of an embankment of a railroad formerly linking Augustów and Grodno;

17,0 - Ostrowie Kolonia, on the left bank, near the outflow leading to water reservoirs, there is a campsite.

2. Ostrowie - Lipsk 10 km (27 km)
